We decided to drive Nick down to Hobart to visit friends and had one of the more enjoyable trips in recent times because of my reactivated Apple Music subscription. I prefer it over Spotify because I can tell Siri what to play while I’m driving (though sometimes that can end in fits of giggles when she completely misinterprets what I’ve said). We took it in turns to request songs and they were mostly things that were a) highly cheesy b) very singalongable c) songs we loved or d) all of the above.

I can’t remember all the songs on our 2.5 hour trip but the list included:

  • Nothing’s gonna stop us now – Starship
  • We built this city – Starship
  • I’m gonna be (500 miles) – The Proclaimers
  • Tiny Dancer – Elton John
  • Fire and rain – James Taylor
  • (You make me feel like a) natural woman – Carole King
  • Scenes from an Italian Restaurant – Billy Joel
  • Piano Man – Billy Joel
  • Vienna – Billy Joel
  • Baby Grand – Billy Joel feat. Ray Charles
  • Don’t stop believing – Journey
  • Tender – Blur
  • I was only 19 – Redgum
  • Beds are burning – Midnight Oil
  • Islands in the stream – Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
  • All night long – Lionel Ritchie
  • 1999 – Prince
  • Kiss – Tom Jones feat. The Art of Noise
  • I don’t know much – Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville
  • The king of wishful thinking – Go West
  • Little old lady from Pasadena- the Beach Boys
  • I get around – the Beach Boys
  • Living on a prayer – Bon Jovi
  • All star – Smash Mouth
  • if I had a million dollars – Barenaked Ladies
  • I want you back – Jackson 5
  • Rock with you – Michael Jackson
  • Kiss from a rose – Seal
  • Good thing – Fine Young Cannibals
  • Sweet thing – Van Morrison
  • Tupelo honey – Van Morrison

We sang loudly. I’m getting good value out of my $11.99 this month.
